Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! 1080p is an Indian historical period film which was released on 12 May 2014. Directed by Dibakar Banerjee, the film was based on the fictional character Byomkesh Bakshi created by Bengali writer Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay . It follows the exploits of detective Bakshi in 1939 Calcutta during World War II. The film stars Sushant Singh Rajput, Anand Tiwari and Swastika Mukherjee in lead roles along with Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Rajat Kapoor and others. The film was released on 12 May 2014.The film opened to much praise at the box office. It was later screened in International Film Festival of India in New Delhi.The film won several awards, including Best Director, Best Actor (Sushant), Best Actor (Anand Tiwari) and Best Music (Shankar Ehsaan Loy) at The 39th National Film Awards in 2015. The film was nominated for Best Feature Film in Hindi, Kolkata at the 48th National Film Awards in 2015 The critics have praised the acting talent of Sushant Singh Rajput and Anand Tiwari, but have criticized Swastika Mukherjee's limited screen time. The film has been remade in Telugu, starring NTR Jr., Raju Sundaram and Ramya Krishnan with the title "Sarada Chalunni", directed by A. R. Murugadoss. It was released on 6 February 2016 along with "Magadheera". The film was also dubbed in Hindi as "Byomkesh Bakshy" and released on 23 January 2016, to a poor response from critics and audience, resulting in a failure at the box-office.The film was dubbed into Hindi as "Byomkesh Bakshy" for release, but it failed at the box office. "Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!" earned a distributor share of 38.16 crore and a net amount of 45.92 crore in its lifetime.
